In the 2006 Legislative session alone, my opponent voted against 6 bills that would have helped and aided working, middle-class Idaho residents. In every case, the bill in question would have also helped those same Idaho residents with one of the most pressing issues of the day, health care (or lack of health care). My opponent claims to be a champion of health care reform. Webster’s Dictionary defines ‘reform’ as: "to make better by removal of faults." My opponent had at least 6 opportunities ‘to make better’ the lives of Idaho residents. Why would she turn a blind eye on those opportunities?

During that same session, my opponent took advantage of the opportunity to grant pay raises to Idaho’s top Republican elected officials. If there was money available to give pay raises to these Republican office holders, one could ask, "wouldn't that money have been better spent helping Idaho residents get better health care?"

Further opportunities to help provide aid to health care issues came in a measure as simple as authorizing a commemorative license plate. Idaho has plates commemorating activities like snowmobiling. Couldn't we provide for those who wish to contribute to breast cancer awareness, physical rehabilitation and the preservation of Idaho’s historical heritage? My opponent failed to give Idaho residents that simple opportunity. However, approval was given to a license plate promoting the NRA. Why support a national organization at the expense of state and local organizations?

The Republican-controlled Legislature has been able to further the agenda of "government by the party" for too long. Changes are needed and necessary.

Start the process of change by voting for Scott Cannon for State Legislative District 32A on Tuesday, November 7th!
