Janice McGeachin Quotes are from Chamber of Commerce Debate
held on the 18th of Oct. 2006

On Wednesday night the Idaho Falls Chamber of Commerce hosted the only opportunity for you the voter to hear from all 5 legislative candidate for District 32. The Chamber of Commerce conducted a question and answer forum with 4 questions coming from the Chamber and the remainder from the audience. I was struck by some of the comments my opponent made in the course of answering the questions. I would like to start with her final statement to the audience.

My opponent stated that "Water is a critical issue" and that she had worked to pass legation that would have protected Eastern Idaho Water Rights. How did she vote...she wasn't even at the vote. She was absent and excused when "House Bill 800", which dealt with the aquifer recharge, passed the House but then died in the senate. This is the same one that she said she supported.
I have to ask myself how "critical" of an issue are water right for her?

Another comment that raised my eyebrow, was in response to a Chamber of Commerce question about Health Care she said one of the biggest problems was expanding services. "We need to quit expanding Medicaid services." last session she voted against HB0663, which would have provided more individual responsibility for Medicaid Recipients. She said "I voted against HB0663 because 9 million (dollars) was to much to spend." Only 9 Million dollars to help Medicaid Recipients be more in control of their Health Care? That doesn't seem like to high a price to pay for individual responsibility.

Through out the course of the evening, she conveyed the need for a strong economy. On more than one occasion She stated "I have campaigned for lower taxes". Janice then went on to state "I voted against the property tax bill." (Passed in the special session) While she did vote against the bill, that is as far as she went. Janice sits on the Revenue and Taxation Committee, which first heard the bill. She said nothing in her opposition to this bill, other than no. A second opportunity for her to voice her opposition to this legislation arose. Yet again, Janice sat silent.

My only question is this. What kind of a representative is silent when given the opportunity to speak for her community? My answer, one that should not be elected again. A representative is sent to Boise and expected to voice support and opposition. Janice said nothing while your taxes were raised.

I think it is time for a change.

Thank you for your support.
